Street-Art in the Coolest District of Miami

Commonly known for its beaches, parties and cocktails, Miami often correlates with the leisure related attractions centered around the glamorous coastline of Miami-Beach, outshining the city’s lesser known parts. After an overdose of tourist-crowded beaches and restaurants, I’ve decided to venture out into the district of Wynwood, where I discovered a medley of street-arts and murals, some of which are painfully beautiful while others convey a political message.

Political

Following the 2016 US presidential election, the streets of Wynwood were brimming with murals critical of Donald Trump, a mere reflection of US voting patterns, as ethnically diverse and young urban districts tend to support Democrat candidate over Republicans. Other works also show support for the feminist cause.

Animal Featured

Whether manifesting their commitment for wildlife protection or simply admiring the gracefulness of some of the planet’s most impressive behemoths and critters, Wynwood’s artists created a plethora of street-art revolving around animals, mostly by adding a slightly surreal character that deforms and magnifies their appearance.

Commercial

Wynwood is home to plenty of fashionable boutiques and sophisticated dinning places, merged into their embellished surroundings by adopting the same kind of aesthetics, colorful, young and unrestrained. Walking around this exceptionally intersting district is much more enjoyable when accompanied by a fresh smoothie or delightful burrito.

Faces

Probably the most abundant type of murals is the one depicting facial expressions, literally found at every corner. While some art works are very figurative, others express more abstract faces, usually unrelated to humanoid facial features.
